Do you remember when this building was a little grocery store called “Trade Winds”? Since then, this building has come a long way. According to our sources it then became Pizza Place., owned by Clarence Kathrens(who also owned “The Campus Castle ”which was very big during the baby boom era.) In 1985 Don Ricker bought the location and changed the name to Pizza Plus,(acquiring the first liquor license in the woodside district.) Don expanded the menu and built the bar. He put $214.00 in small bills and large coin right in the top of the bar. The customers called it “ The Money Bar”. In 1991 Gene and Donna Winger teamed up with Phyllis Lowery to expand the menu once again incorporating breakfast. They changed the name to Hoops being the basketball fans that they were. It was then and now remains the best breakfast in town. Hoops was purchased in January 2003 by Karl Reichold, who believes the customer comes first, to serve only the best quality food and give the best service. Karl has involved the employees and friends to make improvements to the building and atmosphere. The employees now run Hoops with Marge McDonald as the General Manager. We hope the motto(where you can score great food and good times) fits and you will come back time after time.
